Vandalism is an illegal, anti-social activity. It creates a negative impression of an area and contributes to people's fear of crime.
We aim to prevent vandalism. We do this through initiatives such as CCTV, street wardens and improved street lighting. Where vandalism has taken place on public property we will carry out repairs.
We are not responsible for vandalism to the following:
- Privately owned street furniture. This includes telephone boxes, some bus shelters and electricity boxes. These are the responsibility of the company that put them there.
- Railway property including bridges. Reports of vandalism are dealt with by British Transport Police.
- Environment Agency property
We will attempt to send any reports to the correct organisation. However we cannot guarantee an outcome.
Types of vandalism
Graffiti is an illegal, anti-social activity. It creates a negative impression of an area and contributes to people's fear of crime. Any graffiti on Council owned property will be removed.
Fly-posting is putting up unauthorised posters and stickers in public places. Fly-posting is unsightly and spoils the environment.
Vandalism of non-council property should be reported to the West Midlands Police where applicable.
Bus stops and shelters are not our responsibility. To report faults or damage to a bus stop please contact Transport for West Midlands.
