Gardening and maintenance volunteer

Do you enjoy being outdoors? If so you might enjoy assisting park staff in Priory Park horticultural tasks. This might include preparing beds, weeding, dead heading, pruning, mowing, edging and seasonal bulb planting. Other tasks include habitat enhancement, litter picking and general park maintenance. The role is flexible depending on individual interests and expertise.

Purpose

To support park staff in keeping Priory Park in excellent condition.

Skills, experience and qualities needed

  • Enthusiasm and an interest in parks is essential

  • Must have good communication skill

  • Patience

  • Able to work as a part of a team

  • Must be able to make a commitment of time

Support offered

Support, guidance, supervision and training offered by members of the Ranger team and Green Care team.

What you could get out of it

You will have the opportunity to work as a part of the parks team and build new skills. This is an excellent chance to make a contribution to your local park and community and to meet new people.

As this is a volunteer role there may be training opportunities available for skills development for the purpose of the role. Training might include the use of strimmers, mowers, pruning techniques and many more. This will be encouraged and facilitated where possible.

Other information

Out of pocket expenses related to the role will be reimbursed.

An enhanced DBS check will be carried out before volunteering can commence.

Events and activities volunteer

What you will be doing

Do you enjoy meeting new people and helping with events? Perhaps you would like to assist park staff in developing a range of events and activities for people of all ages. Support the staff in delivering children’s holiday and weekend activities. A volunteer may help with risk assessments, user surveys, event promotion, welcoming participants, completing registers, addressing groups to provide information and monitoring participants to ensure they have an enjoyable experience. The role is flexible depending on individual interests and expertise.

To support staff in planning, promoting and delivering a range of quality events and activities that meet the needs of the local community.

When and where

Volunteers might come on a regular basis to help with planning and promotion or as and when events are scheduled in Priory Park
