On the 25th September 2024 Cabinet approved the Dudley Borough Place-based Strategy. It was prepared in liaison with West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), who in 2023, agreed a Deeper Devolution Deal with Central Government. This involves transferring more power and funding to regional bodies and local authorities.
At the heart of the Deeper Devolution Deal is the concept of a ‘Single Settlement’ - a consolidated, long-term budget which will enable the region to prioritise local decisions.
To inform priorities for investment thorough the Single Settlement, the WMCA asked each local authority to prepare a ‘Place-based Strategy for economic growth and regeneration. The strategy is built around the Single Settlement five ‘pillars’ of activity which relate to:
- Housing and regeneration;
- Local growth and place;
- Local transport;
- Adult and skills; and
- Net zero and retrofit.
The Place-Based Strategy for Dudley sets out a growth narrative and vision for the Borough. It identifies the key locations for investment and the measures to unlock. It outlines how we will contribute to regional priorities, and sets out how other resources will be used alongside the Single Settlement.
It should be used in conjunction with the Dudley Borough Economic Regeneration Strategy (ERS) (2024), Dudley Borough Cultural Strategy (2024), and the Dudley Local Plan.
