The SEND and Additional Needs Team serves as an essential support network for SENCOs, providing expertise and resources to promote the effective inclusion and progress of students with special educational needs within mainstream schools.
Workforce Development (WFD)
The team is committed to enhancing professional practice through:
- Delivering bespoke training tailored to schools' needs
- Facilitating guest trainers to share specialised knowledge
- Developing and trialling innovative pilot initiatives
- Organising conferences to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing
- Signposting internal partner training opportunities
- Raising awareness of free online training resources
Communication
The team ensures effective communication and collaboration through:
- Hosting SEND Network Meetings to share updates and best practices
- Developing and maintaining the SEND Network SharePoint as a key resource hub
- Providing regular updates and briefings for Head Teachers, Governors, the Parent Carer Forum (PCF), SENCOs, and Safeguarding Leads
On-The-Ground Support
Practical support is at the heart of the team’s work, including:
- Direct support for SENCOs in schools
- Guidance on policies and processes, including the Assess, Plan, Do, Review (APDR) cycle
- Assistance with complex cases
- Training, modelling, and coaching for class teams
- Advising on environment and resource assessments, alongside practical support
- Supporting the development of commissioned provision tailored to local needs

Additionally, agencies or professionals within Dudley who identify a school requiring support may also refer them to the team.
