New shopping development and other appropriate uses such as business, leisure and entertainment, community, public service and residential uses will be encouraged to locate within the Borough’s town centres in order both to diversify and maintain their future role at the heart of economic, social and community life.
In January 2008, Brierley Hill was designated as the new strategic town centre for the Borough of Dudley. This will enable plans to go ahead for more shops, leisure facilities, offices and housing all to be built in such a way to link Merry Hill, the Waterfront and Brierley Hill High Street together as one Centre.
The Brierley Hill Area Action Plan will guide regeneration in the town, to include Merry Hill, the High Street and the Waterfront, at least up to 2021.
The Dudley Town Centre Area Development Framework presents a vision for the town which is focused on serving the needs of the local community and seeks to ensure the town remains a centre for civic life, for shopping and for education.
It also anticipates change to become a place with a much richer mix of shops, cafes, restaurants and creative enterprises.
A £30 million transformation has been completed in Halesowen to breathe new life into the town. Vale Retail, Centro-WMPTA and Dudley Council are worked together to deliver the exciting plans to Build a better Halesowen.
New Heritage Regeneration Ltd is an independent company, which aims to bring about significant investment and positive change for the borough’s four principal town centres and 16 local centres. The company will provide and access a broad range of expertise in programme management and design, public and private finance, valuation and cost consultancy, public consultation and commercial and legal advice.
It is intended that New Heritage Regeneration will work closely with Dudley Council, Advantage West Midlands, the Homes & Communities Agency and other local agencies who will all play a significant part in the future development our towns and local centres.
