Elections
If you haven't registered to vote, or you have changed your address, you can register to vote online. Please have your National Insurance Number and your date of birth to hand when you register. The process only takes 5 minutes.
Past election results
Local elections are on May 4
Here are some things you need to know before polling day:
- You need to be registered to vote. The deadline is April 17 and it is quick and easy to register online
- You need photo ID if you want to vote at a polling station. We have a full list of approved forms of ID
- If you don't have one of the approved forms of ID you can apply for a voter authority certificate. These work in the same way. The deadline to apply for a voter authority certificate is April 25
- You can apply for someone to vote on your behalf at a polling station. They will need to show an approved form of ID. The deadline to apply for a proxy vote is April 25
- You can also vote via post. You do not need photo ID to do this. The deadline to apply for a postal vote is April 18
Key dates for this year's local elections
- April 17 - deadline to register to vote
- April 18 - deadline for postal vote (5pm)
- April 25 - deadline for proxy vote (5pm)
- April 25 - deadline for voter authority certificate
- May 4 - polling day
