Park Restoration Project

Dudley Council was successful in gaining £1.4 million National Lottery funding for important restoration and development work that was completed in 2021. Match funding from the council was able to extend the budget to £1.8 million. The funding, which has been awarded through the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery Fund, was used to restore the footpaths, entrances, bandstand and peace gardens.

This entailed:

  • restoring and extending Tintern House (formerly known as the White House) to create a community café and meeting room.
  • working in partnership with the Emily Jordan Foundation, a charity working to support people with learning disabilities. The Emily Jordan Foundation will be developing horticultural training opportunities, a bike recycling workshop as well as other opportunities to support people with learning disabilities to move closer towards work.
  • delivering a range of activities and events from the park to make the area more attractive and vibrant.
Stakeholders and members of the public were involved in the ideas and proposals for the site. The Friends of Stevens Park Quarry Bank have been closely involved in the project since it began.

2020/21 also saw the refurbishment of the beautiful Tintern House in the grounds of Stevens Park as part of the Parks for People (Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery Community Fund) funded project. Tintern House is now a base for Emily Jordan Foundation, who’s aim is to support people with learning disabilities to lead fulfilled lives.
