Our aim is to support families with caring for their children. We help ensure the well-being of children and young people through providing or arranging services to meet their needs and protecting them from harm.
If you or a member of your family are experiencing difficulties which may be affecting your child/children, we may suggest a member of our team come to talk with you to carry out a family assessment. This will allow us to understand your situation and the help you may need.
A social worker will visit you and discuss the referral.
The social worker will want to talk to:
you and your family, including your children and anyone else living in your home.
professionals who know you and your family, such as your child's teacher or doctor.
They will also talk to you in detail about:
who is in your family and relationships
your child's health, education, behaviour and development
what affects you as a parent
what help and support you get and would like
The assessment is designed to help you and your family.
Up to a maximum of 45 days. However this will be dependent on the child's needs and family circumstances.
For more detailed information about the assessment process please refer to the Assessment Guide for parents and carers.
As an organisation, individual or agency working with children you can make a referral through the Multi Agency Service Hub (MASH) on 0300 5550050.
Following this it may be decided by the MASH that a single assessment is required to determine how best we can understand the needs of the child.
