Independent Living, also known as sheltered housing, is a term used to describe rented accommodation available to those over 55 years. It combines the privacy of your own home with the peace of mind of 24 hour emergency assistance via Dudley Telecare, and the help of a Supported Living Co-ordinator. Our aim is to help individuals live independently within a safe, secure, and homely environment.

The Living Well, Feeling Safe scheme is a partnership that offers older individuals safety, security and wellbeing advice in their own home. This includes advice on alarms, housing options, home adaptations, and fire safety advice.
The scheme is made up of the council and other local organisations such as Age UK Dudley, West Midlands Police, Victim Support and West Midlands Fire Service.
Following an assessment by a partnership officer, appropriate services will be contacted and arranged for assistance and support. It is ideal for those who feel vulnerable, isolated, or in need of a little advice.
The Dudley Telecare Service is a technology based system that offers continuous monitoring and helps to minimise risk. Devices include a range of alarms and sensors that are linked to the emergency monitoring centre where our call handlers are available 24/7 to respond when triggered or called.

The Winter Warmth Support Scheme aims to help residents keep warm and well in their homes over winter. The service runs all year round and offers a range of advice and practical support to help heat homes. This may include free home energy visits, advice to help reduce bills or help to access energy grants and discounts.

Dudley’s Home Improvement Services allows residents in private or social housing can apply for adaptations to their home and the team provides additional services to support vulnerable people. If your home is not adaptable or you would prefer to move to a more one that can be more easily adapted, our services can advise you further. Please be aware that social housing is in short supply, and demand is extremely high for family homes. However, support may be available to help you to move to an alternative, more suitable, private home through our home improvement service.
